Shower gifts

After the showers, a few mushrooms appear, like little umbrellas for the small creatures of the yard.

bee? wasp? Never know what to call these tiny workers.

Saturday morning: bath-time

The sparrows were really enjoying the bird bath this morning. (Sat, Aug. 4). We had a nice rain yesterday, without the usual fireworks, huffing, and grumbling (locally referred to as a thunderstorm). All is refreshed.
Photos taken through the kitchen window, not very sharp, so tweaked with photoscape, mostly 'watercolor pencil' effect.
I can't decide if this one is enjoying 'the tub' or not.
Line forms at the right....
Splashing-good time!

Friday morning images

A little fog along the Kentucky River this morning.
Tweaked a bit with 'watercolor effect'.
My big bean crop from one pot with two plants in it. Well, there's more than this!

Orange and yellows and six-leg fellows

Sole Survivor. After a very hot and dry June and early July, this one last daylily stands out against the neighbor's black iron fence.  Yesterday's rain was so very welcome! Everything seems refreshed today.

Gifts on a Tuesday morning.

My kitchen window does not have a screen, so a spider built one for me last night. Unfortunately, neither of us washed the window first.

Found this cicada on the porch this morning. It could not fly because it's right wing was damaged. Love his colors and the transparent wings.
A not-so-good image, "PhotoScaped".

Horse Pull at Woodford County Fair.

These are mid-sized pictures. Click on an one of them to view larger and bring up a slide show. This is a sampling of the pictures I took. I think there were 8 teams competing. Woodford County Fair, Versailles, Kentucky. June 23, 2012
Relaxing in the shade before the show.
Four by Four
A team of Belgians
First 'pull'. The sled loaded with 2000 lbs of concrete blocks. Each round adds blocks. Final round, winners pulled sled with 7400 lbs.
The teams weighed 3350 to 3550 lbs, bigger horses had to pull added weight.
Ike and Sparky. Ike is Belgain and Sparky is Brabant.
Ike an Sparky saying hello.

This team seemed mismatched, but equally capable.

a little artistic license on this and some of the next photos.
Attending the team.

Focus on the horse.  A farm family event.

First round, not many block in the sled. Last round, they pulled more than twice their own weight.
Rearing to go! Almost before the hitch is dropped into place, the horses start to pull.
Horsepower in action.
